drag and drop problem

I haven't found anything online that answers this issue. When I click on a single file or group of files, hold the left mouse button and the Control key, as I drag the files it says "copying files to". But, when I release the mouse button it says "moving files to" and begins moving the files. This happens when trying to copy files to another folder or to another drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi BeachBoysFans,

I think this problem may have to do with third-party shell extensions.

    • Download Autoruns from Microsoft Sysinternals.
    • Unzip and run Autoruns.exe or Autoruns64.exe
    • Once the entries are loaded, from the File menu, click Save.
    • Save as .ARN file type and close Autoruns.
    • Upload the .ARN file to your OneDrive and share the link here.

    Hi BeachBoysFans

I am Dave, I will help you with this, the 'Copy T' function in Windows 11 is a bit buggy, many people have reported this.

To copy files to another drive, no need to press any key, just click and drag them to the other drive, that will always create a copy on the other drive.

To copy files to a another folder on the same drive, select the files, then press Ctrl + C then navigate to the other folder and press Ctrl + v, that will create a copy of those files in the other folder on the same drive.
