Change System variables on windows 11

Hello,

I came across a problem while trying to change a system variable through the Environment Variables window. It does not allow me to add New/ Edit/ Delete any variable.

I am in the admin account, and I also changed the User Account Control Settings to the lowest possible (as was recommended for Windows 10) and I still cannot access the System variables.

Thank you in advance for you help.

Nadav

is there a work or school account linked to your PC possibly for software installation?

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to Accounts.

Select Emails and Accounts, is there is a work or school Email listed there?

Select Access Work or School, is there is a work or school Email listed there?

    Hi DaveM121,

    Thanks for your reply.

    1. I am trying to define a the system variable JAVA_HOME according to the following manual image processing software: https://icy.bioimageanalysis.org/tutorial/installation-instructions-for-icy-software/

I access "Edit environment variables for your account" directly from the search bar. I hope it answered the question.

    1. There is indeed an institution account connected to the device (through which I obtain my office license).

    Hi Nadav Scher,

Thank you for that information, this is a known bug, that method is causing this error.

Click your Start Button, then just type advanced system

On the resulting list, open 'View Advanced System Settings

On the resulting utility click the 'Environment Variables' button at the bottom

You should then be able to edit the System Variables settings.
