Journal Note Writer

Hi all,

I was just given a new work computer running Windows 10 Enterprise.

In the past, when given a new computer I did this to install the Journal Note Writer printer.

Installed Windows Journal Note Version 10.0.10586.237.

Open to make sure it runs.

Close.

Copied Windows Journal Note Version 10.0.10586.585 to my documents or desktop folder.

Open this version.

Go to Tools, and click Install or Repair Journal Note Writer.

Click Install.

And it worked fine.

Now, however, I get an error message after I click Install.

It says

"The Journal Note Writer Print driver could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified. Restart Windows, and then try again."

But I tried that, and I just keep getting the same error.

In the application folder I see a fill named JNWDRV.dll which I think is the driver, but I can't open it directly.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Beth

    Fixed!

Here’s how to install Windows Journal and then the Journal Note Writer Printer onto a new work computer:

    1. Install Windows Journal Version 10.0.237 from Microsoft.
    2. Open it to make sure it works.
    3. Exit/Quit.
    4. Find someone who has an older copy of Journal. Version 10.0.10576.54 works well. (Like me.)
    5. Save a copy of Windows Journal Version 10.0.10586.54 to any OTHER folder on your computer than the Programs folder.
    6. Get/Log-in with Admin Rights.
    7. Open the Journal.exe file from within the folder you saved in Step 4.
    8. Click on Tools and choose Install or Repair Journal Note Writer.
    9. Follow directions.
    10. You should get an “installed successfully” message.
    11. Check by choosing File > Print, and make sure Journal Note Writer is one of the available printers.
    12. Quit/Exit Windows Journal.
    13. In the future use the Journal.exe in the programs folder to run Journal.
