intermittent freezing

Because my computer had become very slow I recently performed a complete re-install of Windows, Office 365 and Photoshop. I deleted unwanted data files and performed defrag. No other software was installed.

This seemed to work initially. However, over about a week problems emerged

  1. The computer became slow again. Opening programmes such as Excel or Word took 10-20 seconds compared with 2-3 in the past.
  2. There was a lag of 1-2 seconds before a key stroke was recognized.
  3. Frequently the computer freezes for about 20 seconds before keyboard and mouse work again.
  4. When opening a web site with MS Edge, the site flashes on and immediately goes off. This is repeated before the site finally stays open
  5. In Excell, when adding data, on moving the cursor from a filled cell to another, the value of the first cell stays in the display until the cursor is clicked in the display

above the worksheet.

Running Windows repair and health check indicates all is well. PC Clean and virus checks also indicate all is well.

Can anyone help with these crazy problems>

Bob

This is a desktop with no added components

    No overheating

RAM use is 5-10% when machine is not in use, Quickly jumps to transient 100% when a programme or internet is opened but the drops again

Check for the overheating of components due to dust accumulation and if this is a laptop do a battery capacity test.

Overheating can be checked by hardware monitor app ( third party)

Battery capacity test can be done via these steps : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/car...

If this is a desktop and additional components have been added your device power usage may have increased and a bigger power supply might be needed.

Last but not least check the ram amount and usage. If there is insufficient ram your hard drive will be used as a substitute which will slow down the entire system.
