May I ask whether you can't enter the desktop through Pin and Windows Hello?

If you can enter the desktop, please change the diagnostic startup in msconfig to normal startup and click OK, then restart the computer to exit safe mode.

If you can't enter the desktop, please reply to us, which may require reinstalling the operating system.

Thank you for your patience and reply.

Hi Bob, that is my point. Safe mode with networking does NOT allow login with PIN or with Windows Hello. So I’m not able to login to my PC at all. Why would Microsoft allow a user to enter Safe Mode like this without any kind of warning of some kind first?

    Hi, my problem;

    Aug 10, 2022

I'm having this problem now and no matter what I do, I get returned to the sign in screen that says:

"Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Click to set up your PIN again." Then I clicked on the "Set up my PIN" and it does not work. Nothing does. I did every option and get returned to the same screen, even when I did boot up to the bios. I'm at my wits end. I want to play my Fallout 4, and don't want to lose anything after all the hours of modding it. I sure hope someone can help me seems its been a couple months or so since this post. I do recall something, msconfig, dialogue box came up out of the blue and said something, and dummy me clicked something. It was the only thing I did last before I did Windows 11 cumulative updates. Now I can't get into my PC. PLEASE HELP ME.

And your reply; sign in when its impossible, telling to click windows start, so on. . .there was a msconfig dialogue box that popped up out of nowhere yesterday, so I was confused, uncertain what to click, figured windows did it so I clicked the basic option, then the update after I woke up this morning. I restart, That happen yesterday with the msconfig. Since it happened this morning, I been reading post, came to this one, sorry for the mix up. I'm not quite awake in the brain yet.

I’m stuck in safemode with networking (turned on diagnostic mode for selective startup in msconfig) on windows 11 and the only two sign in options are PIN and Windows Hello. However, in safe mode neither option works. I was never asked to set up an account password or a local account. How in the world do I get out of safe mode and log back into my PC?! I’ve looked through forums where people recommended bcdedit where the entry of {default} or {current} is deleted but both options throw an error that the options don’t exist. Can you please advise?

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand your windows hello shows this option is currently unavailable.

May I ask whether facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, pin code are all not available or one of the options?

Please provide your OS version and version number.

If your version is the enterprise version, the access permissions for features such as Windows Hello face and fingerprint recognition are controlled by your company's IT administrator. You can't use the windows hello function because the IT administrator has turned off the use of this function.

Please recall whether you have installed some third-party system optimization or security software recently? If there is, we recommended that you temporarily uninstall it.

Also, please try to create a local account and use this account to set up windows hello:

Choose Start > Settings > Accounts, and then choose Family & other users. (In some versions of Windows, you'll see "Other users.")

Next to Add another user, select Add account.

Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information," and then select "Add a user without a Microsoft account" on the next page.

Enter a username, password, and password hint, or select a security question, then select Next.

Change the local user account to an administrator account.

Choose Start > Settings > Accounts.

Under "Family and other users," select the account owner name (you should see "Local account" below the name), then select "Change account type."

Note: If the account you choose shows an email address or doesn't show "Local Account," you're granting administrator privileges to a Microsoft account (not a local account).

Under Account Type, select Administrator, and then select OK.

Log in with the new administrator account.

Let me know if it works.

    Best regards,

Bob8 | Microsoft Community Support Specialist.
