Hi,

I am trying to install some windows server 2016 updates and keep getting the error "The update is not applicable to your computer". some of thie things I had tried are as follows:

  • App Readiness was running when installing
  • Confirm the standalone package downloaded from Microsoft Update Catalog site is meant for Windows server 2016
  • Updated the Servicing Stack to latest available (Apr 21) version

The updates I am trying to install are KB5001347, KB4586830, KB4598243 and all 3 returned the same error when installing.

Any ideas what can be done so that these patches can be installed?

Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions!

    Hi @TZW ,

There may be several reasons why you're receiving the "The update is not applicable to your computer":

    • The update is superseded
    • The update is already installed
    • You have the wrong update for architecture
    • Your update is missing a prerequisite

The most common thing is that you have already installed from a newer update, I suggest you go through these first, for more information see:

    Hi,

You need to install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU).
Install the latest SSU (KB5001402) here:
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5001402
Next, manually download and install KB500638 is enough.

    Hi @TZW ,

If you install the latest cumulative update, it supersedes the older/previously released updates, you can easily view this by going to the Microsoft Update Catalog and search for the KB5003638 update:
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5003638

Then open the 2021-06 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5003638) by clicking on it,

Then click on the Package Details button and look for the updates this update replaces under the This update replaces the following updates section:
