USERNAME FOLDER CHANGE INTO DESKTOP FOLDER

At first, I want to move desktop folder into drive D because it still has a big space. But something went wrong, so I decided to restore it into the drive C again. Unfortunately, my username folder "Sinta" in drive C > Users is kind to be replaced by desktop folder. Both the name and the file inside. Can someone help me with this? I'm so frustrated

Were you not able to sort the Desktop folder out of the User account folder? Did you need help following the steps in Bree's tutorial which should work for Desktop exactly as it worked for Pictures for her.

You might be able to restore it doing a Windows 11 Repair Install which re-installs Windows while saving your files and apps in place, brings it up to the latest version by the most stable method, takes about an hour and resolves most problems: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

If that doesn't work then you'll need to back up your files and do a Factory Reset saving nothing. Make sure to choose the Cloud Reset so it downloads fresh installation files and is less likely to fail. You need to choose to Save Nothing because otherwise it will reinstall the same account that has the twisted User folders. Here is a good tutorial for all ways to do this:

You should back up your files either way as they are always at risk until you have a backup. I'd have a hard copy backup to an external or flash stick, and a real time cloud backup using OneDrive Backup (5gb free) https://www.elevenforum.com/t/turn-on-or-off-on... which syncs Desktop, Documents and/or Pictures; or Google Drive Desktop (15gb free) which syncs any/all User folders: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/1083812...

Report back results for each step so I know what else to suggest.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Hello Greg. I'm sorry, I'm giving up. If I do factory reset on my PC, can everything go back to normal?

Hi, Greg. Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it so much. However, since I am bad at PC's thingy, I think that it will take a little bit longer for me to process. I hope you will still help me later.

Hi Sinta. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

This happens when instead of using the Restore Default button on the Desktop > Properties > Location tab, you try to move it to back manually to the User account but fail to create a new folder named Desktop under the User account to select to move it into. Instead by choosing the User account it for some unknown reason allows you to convert the User account to Desktop.

This would be an extremely complicated puzzle to work out if it weren't for User Bree at Ten Forums writing up her experience for how she undid moving her Pictures folder into User which is the same issue as you're having with Desktop. Follow her procedure here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/116167-undo...

Other here is the way to safely move and restore shell User folders - the trick is to always create a new folder by the same name to move it into in the target location, and if it fails to restore you can recreate it from scratch:
