Display keeps Switching when logging out.

We have a problem with a Windows 10 PC. This PC is connected to a monitor and projector. Both screen have VGA connectors, so 1 screen is attached to DP with an adaptor.

Core i5 (10th Gen)

8gb ram

Windows 10 21H2.

All updates applied and all drivers up to date.

On a Windows 2016 Server domain.

When the machine is turned on, the display is shown on the monitor. When we log in, the display is then mirrored to both screens. However, when we log off, or switch user, the display is shown only on the projector. As this is about 30 or 40 ft from where the computer is, it is difficult to see what is being typed. We need it to stay on the monitor. When the computer is turned off and back on, then the display is shown correctly. We have tried the following :

Swapping around the video cables as they are both VGA.

Moving to Extended display, then making the monitor the main display, and then setting back to mirrored display.

Nothing helps and this needs to be mirrored. Please help.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

Judging from your problem, I think it may be caused by the converter. Because VGA is the simulator signal output and DP is the digital signal output. There may be compatibility issues that cause windows to not recognize the two interfaces correctly.

You also said at the beginning that your machine is based on windows sever2016, which may be caused by the domain? If you change a computer without a domain, try whether the problem still exists?

Feel free to post back if you need more assistance.

    Best regards

    Good morning,

Let me clarify the situation. The PC has a VGA connector and a DP connector only, and only 1 of each. We have a monitor with a VGA connector and a projector with a VGA connector. To connect the both, we have to use the adapter.

    Thank you.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

If you dont use VGA to DP adapter, try to use the original plug. Is it normal?

    Best regards

    Good afternoon,

There are only 2 plugs on the back of the computer. One is VGA and the other is DP. The DP has a VGA to DP adaptor plugged into it. We have swapped the monitor and projector plugs around and it has made no difference at all.

We have set the mode to show only on the projector, and that works as it should and the same applies for the monitor. It is when both are plugged in that the problem occurs.

The problem is that, when logged out or switch user, the display is shown on the projector (no matter where it is plugged in), but when rebooting, or turning off then on, the display shows on the monitor. It seems like the monitor is turned off when logging out.

In addition, this is not a computer issue as a different computer behaves exactly the same. We also need it to display on the screen and the projector together.

Please can you advise further as it is driving me crazy.

    Hi

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

From your description, have you ever tried to change the position of the plug inserted on the graphics card behind the host? It may be that the main and auxiliary output sequences of the graphics card are different. Switching positions may change the position of the home screen back.

Or try setting the mode to show only on 1 and only 2 ?

Looking forward to your further news.

You are welcome to reply to this topic at any time, and sincerely thank you for your support of Microsoft products and services.

    Best regards
