Windows Explorer Auto-Sort Question

Not so much a problem, but just a question.

I have two mp4 files and two folders which used to house said files. Both of the mp4 files had similar names except one had an additional word and both of folders were named after whatever mp4 file it housed.

When I go to sort it by name, the folders sort themselves fine (the folder that has the additional word in its name is below the other folder) but the mp4 files do the opposite (the mp4 with the longer name goes on top of the other file).

Is there a reason why it does this? I want to keep the title I have on there, but I don't want to put file 1 and file 2 if I can avoid it.

I won't put the full names of the files for privacy sake, but I will put what the file's look like to me with the first letter of every word in its name plus its file extension here:

F******* & U** T*********.mp4

F******* & U**.mp4

And how I thought it should look here:

F******* & U**.mp4

F******* & U** T*********.mp4

Thanks in advance.

You may try to uncheck the "File name extension" option in File Explorer > View tab or you could follow the solution provided in the link I mentioned in my previous reply.

Is there a way to change that so that the period is evaluated before the space for File Explorer?

You could also try the solution provided in the link below, in order to get an alphabetical sorting order that doesn't include the file extension name:

Hi, I'm Benedict. I'm here to help you.

Perhaps the file/folder name sorting method that Windows File Explorer uses is based on the order of characters in ASCII Table where SPACE character comes first before PERIOD. In your case, the entire file name including the extension name (e.g. .mp4) has been evaluated.

    Please see if that helps.

    Regards,

    Benedict P.
