when opening powershell instant shutdown

I dont know when I got this problem exactly. But I realized it like 4 days ago when I tried opening the terminal in Intellj to download a specific thing, then it instantly shutdown and I saw it said something with powershell with it. So I figured that I should try opening powershell by itself and it intantly shutdown with no error at all. Then I tried to type "powershell" in cmd then I got the error "Windows PowerShell terminated with the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Management.Automation, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.".

Thanks,

Axtro

Thanks for the video Axtro, which confirms what I thought was happening and provided fixes for.

Technically that is a crash when it opens and closes like that. So the fixes for Powershell crashing can also be tried, but if you want to skip to the Repair Install that will most often fix the problem.

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

Hey there Greg, I have a video for you that shows my exact problem with powershell. I don't think that some of the stuff you were providing were with the issue I have, but I think that installing the Media Creation Tool will probably get it fixed. Since it doesn't show an error code or something that tells me it has crashed after. I will try installing the Media Creation Tool and I will get back and tell you how it went!

    Thanks,

Hey JMA. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

    1. go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
