I have 1 new Windows 10 pro laptop that requires a 6 digit pin complexity. All other Win 10 devices only require 4 digits. I have tried changing the group policy locally on the laptop to 4 digits but I get a message your pin doesn't meet the required complexity when i try and set the 4 digit code.

Another way you can try to change it is on the registry:

Press WinKey + R, type Regedit and press enter. On the Registry Editor, go to the following key: (you can copy and paste the address on the address bar)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\PassportForWork\PINComplexity

On the right side of the window, find the value MinimumPINLength , if it is not present, right click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it MinimumPINLength double click the value and on value data insert the desired value. Restart the computer to apply the changes

    Hi Rodrigo,

I decided to try modifying the entries there to 6, then back to 4. Ran a gpupdate /force and restarted the laptop. Once it restarted to the logon screen, it said I was required to change the pin and it accepted the 4 digit pin. So thank you :) it works now

    Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for the reply. After changing the min and max pin complexity to 4 digits. I did a forced gpupdate. I still get the message it doesn't meet the complexity requirements when I try and change the pin to 4 digits. I think it's getting the requirement from an organisation level, but none of the other devices on the network have the issue.

    Hi Care4IT.,

I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.

After setting the group policy, press WinKey + R, paste the command below, and run it to apply the group policy changes you made.

    gpupdate.exe /force
