Having a clear out and one such item was an original window xp disc. Sealed with coa and all paperwork. Bought two of these new years ago and only used the one, still going strong and only used as word processor, not web work. The one I sold the buyer is now claiming it does not work, though he stated he tried to burn it to an iso file all of which is over my head. My worry is that he has installed and activated it. Now he wants his money back. Is there any way i can check with ms to see if that is the case? I took photos of item at packing stage and fortunate enough to have captured s/n on coa.

We do not work for Microsoft and we also can not get involved in legal matters.

There would be no need for them to burn it to an ISO file, asthat makes no sense..

You burn an ISO file to a CD/DVD.

The CD which came with the sealed package you sold him is a bootable CD containing the XP files.

He changes the Boot Order in the BIOS to make the CD Drive first in the Boot Order and installs from there.

But no one knows WHAT they are trying to install XP on.

Their device manufacturer would have to support XP being installed on that exact model number and supply XP drivers for it.

Saying it does not work is useless to trying to help them.

I do not know exactly how they are trying to install it.

And I do not know if what they are trying to install XP on is compatible for XP

Bad sectors are to do with a failing hard drive, nothing to do with what you gave him; namely a CD.

Read through this and good luck:

I can't help you with your problems with a 3rd party person.

Hi Bill, this is the original message from buyer. "As I Attempted to image the disk, to an ISO file, we encountered bad sectors early on and despite repeated attempts, on different computers, it still didn’t work." followed by "We are a busy GP Practice and well used to software and hardware computer challenges. Whilst we have our in-house computer person, we paid our external IT Consultant for several hours of work and effort in attempting, in so many different ways, to install the disk. Please do not think this any criticism or accusation. It is nothing of the sort. The reality is this disk does not work in spite of every conceivable attempt on several different computers. We should like to return it, please. Please let us know how to do so. We look forward to a refund."

    You are welcome.

I hope that clears it up a bit for you to be able to explain to them.

    Cheers.
