Special characters with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator

While I have successfully created layouts with the MKLC utility, my last attempt involved enhancing the keyboard with special characters through the Alt Gr + key combination. I wanted to add characters such as:

Alt Gr + S: ß

Alt Gr + <: «

Alt Gr + >: »

Alt Gr + :: …
Alt Gr + N: –

Alt Gr + M: —

That works within MKLC when I use its Project | Test Keyboard Layout option, but when I compile the layout, deploy it and select that enhanced keyboard through the Language Bar, those special characters don´t get typed when I key them in any other application.

Pay careful attention that this is NOT an installation issue, I said "compiled, installed and selected language configuration".

And now that we are at that...

  • Any plans to update MKLC to require a more recent .NET framework rather than the outdated v3.5?
  • If MKLC is written in C#, is its source code available anywhere to refit it with a more recent .NET framework?

Hi DEGT. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

You are asking questions that can only be answered by Microsoft developers or a IT Pro's who use this MKLC utiilty. Neither of those are here in Microsoft Community which handles only end-user questions.

If you want to suggest this to Microsoft you can use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback and may interact with you. They will not even see it here. Microsoft developers DO read feedback from customers that comes in via the Feedback Hub, so that is a great way to share your thoughts on how to better serve you as a customer.

Questions for IT Pros can be directed to our sister forums for IT Professionals, Q&A forums here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/answers/index.... as Microsoft Community is strictly an end-consumer forum.

There are also equally good (and sometimes busier) IT Pro forums here:

    https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/

    https://www.spiceworks.com/

    I hope it helps.

Thanks Greg, I was hoping that perhaps someone here may know the answer. In any case, I also followed your suggestion and posted it to the Microsoft Feedback Hub.

I'm glad to help and wish I could do more. Actually since you asked a question about coding you might also want to post this in one of the developers' forums here as they handle those kinds of questions regularly, while we don't at all here:

    https://stackoverflow.com/

    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/s...

    I hope it helps.
