Windows 7 Updates

Why am I still getting updates for Windows 7? Regular updates. Every couple of weeks I get new updates.

Please do not advise me to pause or discontinue updates, because if I do, my system is slowed to a crawl.

I don't want anymore updates. I am not upgrading to a newer version of Windows. Why can't my machine just be left alone?

Open Windows Update. Click Change settings. Change the setting to NEVER....

Then it will no longer be automatic It is up to you when and if you do updating. You take control of the process and take the responsibility with it.

Even though no security updates for Windows 7 have been released since January 14, 2020 (actually, there may have been one for a particularly serious problem), most Windows 7 systems will continue to receive "Windows Updates" for Microsoft software that has not reached end of support (e.g., Microsoft Office 2013 and newer).

In addition, most Windows 7 systems will continue to receive "signature" updates for Microsoft Defender (the anti-spyware application built into Windows 7) and/or Microsoft Security Essentials (the free antivirus program offered for by Microsoft for Windows 7.

    Please do the following:

    1. Click Start, type Windows Update in the Search box, and press Enter
    2. Click the link to "View update history"

You should see something like the following. If the updates you recently received are different from those shown in the screenshot, please list the names of 3 or 4 of them, including the KB number and Date Installed. Or just take and post a screenshot of the top of your "Update History" window.
