Hello, I was just wondering that where does my hardware reserved memory go and what does it do? Does it help in saving memory for the integrated GPU?

Here is a screenshot in task manager:

I have 8GB of ram, is this normal? Is there any benefit of having hardware reserved memory?

Device specifications:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics 2.10 GHz

Installed RAM: 8.00 GB (7.34 GB usable)

System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Hi Waseem. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

Hardware reserved memory is reserved by a hardware device, usually the graphics adapter.

Known as VRAM this RAM can not be decreased but sometimes can be increased if needed for graphics performance as shown here:

To see a graphical representation of your memory apportionment, type Resource Monitor in Search, open it as Admin and click on Memory tab.

I hope it helps. Feel free to ask any questions.

Yes, it assists the Video adapter, depending upon which one you have and how much VRAM it can use. Some video cards come with RAM built-in, others borrow RAM from the PC's installed RAM, known as VRAM.

Thanks for your fast reply, so hardware reserved memory isn't gone and wasted, but reserved for the graphics adapter which will be used, but only used in VRAM, right?
