Email apps won't attach files

After upgrading to Windows 11, I cannot attach files to any of my email apps. I've tried Hotmail and Gmail in both Chrome and MS Edge. I cannot get my email to access files on my hard drive, one drive or Google drive. I have cleared browsing history and cache. I've also "reset" the email in settings. Thanks for any additional tips.

In this case, perform a clean boot to see if any third-party program in the background is causing this problem. Follow the instructions carefully.

(The procedure in this article works for Windows 11 and is the same as for Windows 10)

If the problem does not occur after a clean boot. In this same article, there is a technique to help you identify which program is causing this in "How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot".

After finding the cause or if it does not help, return to normal boot as instructed in "Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting".

Thanks David. I ran the commands you listed in your answer. Unfortunately, the issue is still there. When I compose an email in Hotmail or gmail, and I select "attach file", it freezes . When I close it out, it say "Google Chrome not responding" or "Microsoft Edge not responding." I've tried both browsers. Any other thoughts?

Hi, I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

What exactly happens when you try to attach a file?

Is the window for selecting the file not being displayed?

Even if you answer the questions above, I suggest you do the procedure below.

Use the system file checker to repair possible corrupted or missing system files.

    1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
    2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

    sfc /scannow

    1. Restart the PC and see if the problem is resolved.

Feel free to ask back any questions.
