Please do not fall into the abyss of thinking that just because the thermals stay within specs that heat is not a likely factor. All too often a single part. such as a resistor or capacitor, is too sensitive to even the normal levels of heat and fails sporadically. A part can fail when the temps reach a certain threshold, or if a part is held above a certain temp for a period of time, or even as it cools. Never dismiss heat as being involved as it almost always is at some level.

All the DMP files were virtually the same: Hardware problem indicated.

1A. Sure looks like the processor, heat sink. or the compound between them is involved though it can be other hardware and even some software (3rd party antivirus are known causes).

1B. Overclocking anything can also play a big role in this issue. Even some performance-enhancing and/or checking software will make changes that are in effect at their installation even if you never run them. Best to uninstall ALL of those and set the BIOS and other hardware back to the defaults while troubleshooting.

  1. The only other real hints were that iCUE and/or the RGB may be involved. Best to fully uninstall iCUE and totally disable/remove the RGB while troubleshooting.

  1. Check with ASUStek Support, their online documentation, and drivers, diagnostics, and ask in their forums about any known issues.

Glad to help. And be sure to let Asus know about "Fast Startup".

Sweet thanks for the help, ill try everything you have said and if nothing fixes it ill have to rma the cpu or motherboard.

    Thanks

    Robert

    edit:

seems that turning off fast startup has fixed the problem or atleast made it less likely to happen. Will however need to use the pc more to confirm this.

Hi Rob thanks for the reply.

On the note of stress testing hardware I have stressed each component for at least an hour using OCCT and have stressed the ram using memtest84 for an hour, none of these tests had any errors. With reseating everything I have reseated all components apart from the CPU, was hoping I wouldn't have to go through the effort but I have ordered new thermal paste so that I can do it if needed. The thermals for the CPU never reach above 70 degrees Celsius during gaming which is when the crash occurs but the thermal past I have ordered is thermal Grizzly Kyronaut which should fix the problem if it is somehow thermals.

Hi robwinchester1, I am Rob, an Independent Advisor not affiliated with Microsoft and a 15 time and dual award Microsoft MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis. Please remember as independents we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

The BugCheck 124 is most often, but not always, a hardware-related issue. How to troubleshoot is included below.

IMAGE_NAME: AuthenticAMD.sys <-- most likely the AMD processor or some other hardware directly affecting it.

First - Disable Fast Startup to see if that clears it.

Start - Settings - System - Power & Sleep - on right under "Related settings" -

Click "Additional power settings" - Click "Choose what the power settings do".

Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" - uncheck "Turn on fast startup" -

    Save changes.

Could be heat-related - try using a box or floor fan blowing on high onto the motherboard's CPU & GPU areas to see if that helps. Does it just act like it loses power or does it shut down in a normal manner? Heat-related does not always mean too much heat as it is very possible that a single resistor, capacitor, transistor, or etc. is just too sensitive to even normal levels of heat.

Remove ALL power and re-seat all cards, memory, and cables (both ends when possible) - actually remove and replace - do not just snug. Remove the dust bunnies and clean the vents. Check that the fans work (before and after opening the case). If a laptop about all you can do is re-seat the memory and clean the vents (still can try adding a small fan as a test).

Check the processor seating, heat sink, and the compound between the processor

and the heat sink which are common causes.

This sounds like hardware so if the above does not help then you probably need the help of a real computer shop (one that does its own in-shop service) or the System Maker's Support.

    ==================================================

Go here and download this tool - check ONLY these TWO Boxes -->

check "Last 10 Event Viewer errors"

    AND

check the "List Devices" with option "ALL" checked.

MiniToolBox - Free https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minit... Running the tool will open a readout in NotePad - on the top left menu select "File" - "Save As" ( CTRL + SHIFT +S) - name it what you will, in the folder you wish. and upload the file as you do the minidumps (see below) and paste the link in a reply in this thread.

Troubleshoot blue screen errors <-- read this link

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/t...

Look in C:\Windows for memory.dmp and in C:\Windows\minidump for xxxxxxxxx.dmp files.

We can analyze the DMP files if you make them available from the OneDrive or other file sharing sites (such as MediaFire). If you have problems uploading the minidumps copy them to the Desktop or the Documents folder and upload them from there.

One-Drive - Share files and folders and change permissions

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/sha...

    Upload photos and files

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/add...

Zip or RAR the files then upload them - the Memory.DMP individually and/or minidumps up to the last 5 altogether.

Use OneDrive to upload collected files

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/uplo...

    ====================================================

    BCCode: 124 0x00000124

This is usually heat-related, defective hardware, memory, or even processor though it is "possible" that it is driver-related (rare). Remove ALL power and re-seat all cards, memory, and cables (on both ends) - actually remove and replace - do not just snug. Make sure the system has adequate ventilation - add a small fan blowing into intakes. Carefully inspect the motherboard and other cards for damage. Pay attention to the fatal hardware error implication. You may need a real computer shop or the System maker's Support.

Check the processor seating, heat sink, and the compound between the processor

and the heat sink which are common causes.

There have been a few instances where Norton/Symantec and other antivirus/security programs have caused this error.

    BCCode: 124 0x00000124

The WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000124.

This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug

check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error

    Architecture (WHEA).

Please note that consumer-level troubleshooting software rarely specifies a particular piece of hardware so a lot of close observation is required.

Running PassMark Burnin Test (Free Trial), OCCT for Home Use (Free), and the Stress Tests may help indicate a cause.

PassMark Burnin Test - Free Trial - note the trial version will only run for 15 minutes and it really needs to be used for many hours. So if you use this you will need to faithfully and quickly restart it every 15 minutes.

OCCT - Free for Home use

Running Stress Tests might help indicate a cause - use ALL of these.
