hello, my explorer.exe uses an awful lot of CPU and mainly memory, I have tried many types on youtube for example...

1) update to 21h1 (build 19043.1055)

2) sfc /scannow

3) windows defender full scan (0 threats)

4) malwarebytes full scan (0 pups, 0 threats)

5) restart task

6) end task, re-run explorer.exe (5 and 6 fixes it for about 3-5 minutes before it starts acting up again

7) ran dism even with sfc /scannow showing no errors

8) created a new admin user account (still had issue).

9) looked for weird desktop icons - none

none of that helped

OK. So are you saying your processor is causing the trouble?

I'll link a few tools to test the hardware:

    1. CPU: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16474-prime95-stress-test-your-cpu.html
    2. RAM: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/14201-memtest86-test-ram.html

    !!! IMPORTANT !!!

    1. If your processor reaches extremely high temperature during stress-testing, immediately stop it to prevent processor damage.
    2. Make sure to run at least 8 passes of Memtest86+ to find errors.

Good day! I'm Raniel, a Microsoft user like you. I understand your frustration regarding this issue and I'll do my best to help.

Just to clarify, did you make any changes to your machine before encountering this issue?

I suggest that you perform the additional methods on this article to improve the performance of your machine:

    https://support.microsoft.com/windows/tips-to-i...

However, if the issue persist, kindly perform a repair install of your Windows which fixes the broken system files on your machine.

    1. Download the media creation tool here: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win... (click on "Download tool now") and wait for the download to finish
    2. Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus, then open the tool and select the option "Upgrade this PC now".
    3. Wait until your machine goes to the process of repair install. There should be no worries in performing it since you will select the option to keep your files during the process.

You may also look into the Windows 10 recovery options(see "Restore from a system restore point" or "Reset your PC"): https://support.microsoft.com/help/12415/window...

Note: ensure to have a backup of your files

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Well then update to v21H2 build 19044. Maybe that'll fix it.

Apart from software fixes, try the hardware fixes too:

    1. Clean your computer fans.
    2. If it's a laptop: make sure you've not placed it on the bed, pillow, etc., those can block the fans and make your fan speed reach high RPMs.
    3. If it's a desktop: make sure the part on the case with the fan(s) isn't way too close to the wall. Give it some space to exhale properly.
