Windows.old Bootup

I’m having trouble because windows has 2 scanned installations and it won’t start up. At first it was just a boot issue with the boot files missing but it’s telling me there’s 2 total installations which got me confused on where my files are. I don’t know how to approach this and I don’t want to have to wipe my drive to start over again. If anyone can help that would be great.

Thanks for the info, sorry about that.

Please perform the procedure below and analyze if the problem persists.

  1. Boot with the Pen Drive;
  2. When the installation window appears, click Repair your computer;
  3. Click Troubleshooting;
  4. Advanced options;
  5. Command Prompt;
  6. Type the commands below and press Enter at the end of each one:

diskpart

list volume

select volume X (You need to select the volume labeled ESP here, change the letter X by the volume number referring to ESP);

assign letter=T

exit

bcdboot C:\Windows /s T: /f UEFI

After it finishes, close the Command Prompt and restart the computer and check if Windows starts normally.

If after trying to recreate the startup files it doesn't work, you will need to reinstall Windows, please follow the thread below.

    Hi Paloma, I get 2 different error codes when turning it on, I was able to enter recovery mode thanks to my usb drive but I haven’t had much help with the tools. I’ve followed some procedures to try and recover my boot files but I’ve had no luck with that.

    Hello, how are you?

    My name is Paloma B., I am very happy to be able to try to help you in the best possible way.

    I understand that you have questions about installing Windows.

    The Windows.old folder is usually created when you do an ISO installation or a Windows update.

    Probably the data is in the Windows folder only.

    I suggest you try to repair the installation from the path D:\Windows.

    Could you share more details about the startup issue?

    An error is displayed when trying to start.

    I await news.
