SharePoint List Views sometimes tabbed, sometimes a dropdown

In SharePoint, sometimes the views for a list appear as tabs and sometimes they appear as a dropdown. This seems to be completely random, appearing differently on different page loads and for different users. There is no SharePoint settings, as far as I can tell, to control it.

Any ideas? I found old forum threads (e.g., this one and this one) mentioning this same problem and the reply was "Microsoft is upgrading to a new experience". Well it's now July 2025. Is MS still upgrading to a new experience or what is the reason why the interface changes randomly on each page load? How can I provide support for users for an interface that randomly changes?

As of July 2025, as far as I l know, Microsoft has not provided a definitive end date for this transition, and there is no official setting in SharePoint to force a consistent view (tabs or dropdown) for all users. While we understand how inconvenient this issue may be for you but as a forum moderator, my role is to help guide discussions and share information based on Microsoft documentation and community knowledge. Currently, Microsoft has not released any official guidance or documentation addressing this specific issue with this issue.

Meanwhile, thank you for your feedback and suggestion. We appreciate your input, and we are always looking for ways to improve SharePoint.

To more conveniently switch between the new and old lists user experience, I recommend you open a service request with Microsoft or give suggestion in the feedback portal. Many features of current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.

Thanks for the reply. The issue is it's not only a matter of having a consistent interface per user. Rather, even for the same user, the interface will change randomly on page load.
