Installing Windows updates, needs extra space on your C: drive. This is because Windows makes temporary files and backups during the update.
It’s safer to keep about between 20-30 GB free space on your C: drive.

Thanks for the reply. My question is specific for OS security patches (updates from Microsoft) installation and not about fresh OS installation. Microsoft releases OS security patches (Cumulative updates) on every 2nd Tuesday so my question is What is the exact free space or ideal free space on C drive required to install such patches for successful installation (I want to know the prerequisite). Thanks.

Thank you for the clarification,
Microsoft does not publish an exact required free space value per cumulative update, but based on the experience, Microsoft guidance recommends a free space of 8-12GB.
