Will "undo turn-in" go wrong?

Hi there,

I used the Microsoft Team assignment to publish my online exam which was due a few days ago. But something very weird happened to one of my students and I would like to inquire about it.

She was working on course X's assignment last night on MT but had accidentally pressed "turn in" before she finished it, then she immediately undid the turn in. However, the MT system got frozen at that moment, so she refreshed it, logged out and then logged in again. But somehow, the "undo" did not work on course X, but worked on my final exam and another course Y instead, which means her final exam of my course and her assignment of course Y were automatically unsent by the system. She then resubmitted her exam immediately without consulting me first, and now the system shows her submission of the final exam is late and there is no history showing her first submission.

The above information all came from her. I am quite sure she submitted a file before the deadline as I checked it myself then and I am also certain the file she resubmitted hasn't been edited after the deadline. However, as we are investigating this case, I would like to ask, in what circumstances, what she told us would happen? Will the MT system go wrong and undo other submissions which are not supposed to be undone? Did this happen before? I would like to verify whether what she told me was true. Thank you very much.

Best regards,

R

    Hi R-Azure,

Thanks for posting in the community.

According to your description, my understanding is you want to know whether the situation is caused by a issue with Microsoft Teams itself or caused by human factors? As far as I know, I haven’t seen this kind of issue before, but since you quite sure the student did turn in the assignment before the deadline, you may need to check any records of the assignment for further confirmation.

Normally, the admin/IT department can search the audit log for events in Microsoft Teams, but I am afraid the audit log doesn’t include the activities of “Turn in the assignment” or “Undo turn in the assignment”. It means the built-in features in Microsoft Compliance Center can’t help you. To further confirm the situation, I would like to suggest you contact your admin/IT department to create a support ticket and describe the situation via Microsoft 365 Admin Center> Support> New service request. That support team there will have the correct channel to help you investigate more and find what exactly reason has caused this issue.

    Appreciate your understanding and patience.

    Best Regards,

    George
