According to my test, when you join a breakout room, Teams will pop up a new window for this room. So, you can click the ‘leave’ button in the upper right corner of the meeting room window to leave the meeting room and return to the primary meeting.
If you want to close a specific room, select More options (…) next to the room and then click Close room. Once a breakout room is closed, chat for that session is closed. Participants can’t continue to chat there.
