    Hi Fernandez-rossi,

Thanks for posting in the forum, we’ll try our best to help.

From your post, I believe your student is opening the document in Microsoft Teams app and the students do not see any option to open the document in browser. Correct?

In this scenario, please check with the student if he sees the option Open in browser when he clicks ellipses (three dots), as shown in the screenshot below.

Student can also open the document directly in browser without opening the it in Teams. For this, go to Files tab, click the ellipses next to the file name and select Open>Open in Word online.

If the document is attached to an assignment, in a similar way, the student can click the ellipses next to the file name and select Open>Open in Word online.

If this is not the case, please confirm from where the student is opening the document and also provide us with the screenshot to clarify the situation.

    Regards,

    Neha

    Hi Fernandez-rossi,

Since all the students can open the assignment in browser, I believe the issue is on the affected students’ end. From your side, please try checking Student view to confirm which view get when they access assignment. Please note, this will show the collective view which usually same for everyone.

    For this:

    1. Navigate to the General channel in your class, then select Assignments.
    2. Select the assignment in which students are getting the issues.
    3. Select Student view at the top to preview the assignment from a student's perspective.

In addition, please try suggesting the student to try using a different Brower to access Teams for web, see if this makes any difference.

    Regards,

    Neha

Student is using a district computer. He is logging into his portal then office 365 then teams (so web based)   I change the word doc to make it student able to edit.  In this class/team others students can and do access it.  I will try to have him figure out screen shots and send them.  Due to social distancing I do not have access to his pc to take the screenshots. Or I might zoom with him and see if I can take pic that way.  HE has shared his screen before and the option is not there (edit in browser).  Also he did not have the add work feature.  :(   I will see about the updates.  Since it a district device we do not have authority/admin permissions to update or add anything to the computers,  I will try another route.  Thank you,

    Hi Fernandez-rossi,

    Thanks for replying.

May I know when attaching the Word document to assignment, you selected Students edit their own copy or Students can’t edit?

In any case if the student is unable to open the attached Word document in browser, then suggest the student to open it in desktop app. Students can then open the document and make the edit as required and save it to their computer. Once the student is done, he can go to the assignment and select +Add Work just below My work heading and click Upload from this device.

    Click Upload from this device

Further, please check with the students if there are any updates available for Microsoft Teams. Students can manually download updates by clicking Check for updates on the Profile drop-down menu on the top right of the app. If an update is available, it will be downloaded and silently installed when the computer is idle.

In addition, if the students are using Microsoft Teams desktop app, please suggest them to use Teams for web and check if they see the option to open the doc in browser.

If the issue persists, please confirm the following information:

    1.       May I know whether the students are using Teams app or Teams for web?

    2.       Please confirm whether you selected Students edit their own copy or Students can’t edit when attaching the document.

    3.       Please provide us with some related screenshots to confirm the scenario.

    Thanks,

    Neha

They do not have that option. It is word document I uploaded into the assignment tab.  Most students can and have the option to open in browser but this two students do not it only says open in desktop.
