Microsoft TEAMS tag usage

Question

I am teaching in 6th grade in a hybrid situation where my TEAMS are set up by class period (1st, 2nd, 4th, etc.).  Half of the students in each class come to in-person instruction on A-Days and the other half of that same class period come to in-person instruction on B-Days.  When those students are not in-person, they are considered remote learners and I need to assign different additional work to them for their remote learning days. 

I am hoping to use tags to tag students as A-Day In-Person Learning, A-Day remote learning, B-Day in-person learning, and B-day remote learning students.  This would help me and my students keep track of which lessons are meant for the various deliveries of instruction.  

If I go to "manage members" and assign the students to the appropriate tags, then when I create an assignment and tag that group, will only those students in that tag setting get the assignment, or will all students in the class see the assignment? Also, if there is a better (more efficient) method of doing what I described, I'd like to know what that is.  Thank you.

Firstly, Microsoft tags are only available to mention a set of tagged members in a notification or chat.
Currently, tagging is not available in Assignments. However, there is an option in an assignment that allows you to categories assignments and organise them by the work, unit or subject.

Technically Microsoft tags and assignments categories are different, so if you add a category to an assignment, it will be available for all students in the class.

I would suggest to create a different channel(class) for each learning session and post assignments targeted to each learning class. You can also try private channel to group set of students in a class, please note that private channel doesn’t allow to schedule meeting rather you can Meet students in a conference call on the fly.
