Hi

I trust you are well.

Can someone please clarify or help me understand the bellow from a technical perspective.

I have customer that purchased mixed plans of O365 Business plans, M365 Business Basic (O365 Business Essentials ) and Microsoft 365 Business Standard (O365 Business Premium).

Now the customer uses email that is not exchange or gmail and is not planning to deploy exchange eather. So they don´t have Azure AD connect.

So is only interested in Microsoft teams for now and deploy teams across the organisation but starting with 30 licenses of the plans mentioned above.

  1. Is it possible for them just to deploy/configure teams without having outlook/exchange?
  2. How can they use teams without exchange/outlook? is it possible?
  3. If yes, will they get full functionality of teams? like scheduling meetings without outlook, how will this work?

Regards,

Carlos

Hello

Users configured in Microsoft365 are actually using Azure Active Directory anyway. Microsoft365 doesn't have its own directly, it uses AADC.

If they want to collaborate as a single entity, and certainly use sharepoint they will need to be in a single directory in Microsoft365.

Yes Microsoft 365 Basic is the lowest offering available.

That will allow use of Teams, Sharepoint and OneDrive.

It will create a mailbox for them however you do not need to migrate their domain over to Microsoft365, you can keep that with the existing provider. Microsoft will provide an internal domain (onmicrosoft.com) for use with Microsoft365 services.

Hope this helps!

    Hi Nigel,

    Thanks for the reply,

So which means they cannot use teams without Azure active directory Right?

I also want to understand after the Microsoft account/Tenant is created is it must that they use the email (exchange) services to get full functionality of temas?

Can´t they use teams and integrate with the email service that they are currently using and which is not exchange or gmail?

I just my concerns are that for now the customer only wants teams and probably sharePoint for file management.

The Microsoft 365 Plans we are looking at are Microsoft 365 Basic and Microsoft 365 Standard?

    Thanks,

    Carlos

    Hi,
I think i understand your question but please correct me if I am incorrect.

To use Microsoft Teams you must sign in with a Microsoft Account.
All the user accounts for Teams which is Microsoft 365 are created and stored in Azure Active Directory AADC back end.

If you have purchased licenses, then they will need to sign into teams with
with the Microsoft ID created in Azure AADC.

If they do not all sign in using this account, they will be collaborating as though they are all separate entities and no part of the same organisation.

    Hope this helps!
