Dissociate headset mute button from Teams

Hi. I have been searching the forum for my issue, but I can only find exactly the opposite of what I want!

I am a sign language interpreter, and I frequently have to use Zoom and Teams at the same time. One of them will be for access to a meeting, and the other for direct contact with my Deaf client. Sometimes I want Zoom to be muted and not Teams and at other times visa versa. However, due to the "feature" of Teams associating itself with the headset controls (Plantronics Savi 720), it is impossible to mute Teams and have the headset unmuted so I can use it with Zoom. In the past, I could get round this by changing Teams to a different microphone, but now even that doesn't work. Teams continues to be associated with the Savi headset mute button!

Is there any way to stop the association between Teams and headset?

    Hi Nik

Thanks. I have already tried quitting the app and restarting. Made no difference to the mute button problem. However, since you mentioned that there has been a problem switching mics during a call, I have tried changing it before the call and it did work. That'll do for now, even if it is irritating to have to keep fiddling with microphone settings.

Strangely, I have been unable to open the web version of Teams. I just get "We're sorry—we've run into an issue."  I've had this problem before, but usually I sign out and it works the next try. This time it hasn't, so I haven't been able to log into the online version.

    Regards

    Sherratt

    Hi SR_55,

Good to know that switching the Mic setting before the call worked for you.

Regarding the MS Teams web app issue, have you tried clearing the browser cache and cookies for all time to check the outcome. Also, please try to open the browser session with InPrivate\Incognito mode and access https://teams.microsoft.com.

If you still see the issue, then please share with me the error screenshot to check if there is an error code or message that I can refer to look further into this.

    Regards

    Nik

    Hi SR_55,

Thanks for your post on the community forum. I'm Nik, an independent advisor here to assist you with this.

There seems to be some issue with the recent update to switch the Microphone during an ongoing call. However, to isolate the issue with the Teams app.

Go to access 'Teams Web App' https://teams.microsoft.com, use the "Use the web app instead" option to open teams in a browser(preferably Chrome or Edge) and check the outcome.

try switching the microphone from the audio setting during the Teams call and check the outcome.

It will help to isolate the issue with the desktop app.

Also, please try to manually restart the app by right-clicking the icon in your taskbar (Windows) and selecting Quit. Click the app icon to open it again.

Now, try to switch the audio during the call and check the outcome.

Please let me know the outcome, and I'll further look into this.

    Regards

    Nik
