Cannot upload in MS Teams

Hello,

My daughter is currently using Microsoft Teams at school.

We haven't been able to upload any docs. Every time we try we get an error message "file is locked". Her classmates managed to post, as shown in the pic below.

We have tried the web version and the app on two different computers (Windows 10 64-bit).

None of them allowed us to add files as attachments. How can we solve this?

Thank you in advance.

Update: I've just installed the mobile app. I cannot upload using it either. Differently from the desktop or web version, I get no error message but the upload progress bar keeps trying to upload, to no avail.

    A. Again download/create your affected JPEG file.

Done, same error message as I try to upload it. :(

    B. Open Teams online app in InPrivate browser mode (use Edge or Chrome browser) and check if you are able to upload it.

Tried Edge Private window, same error with the original or a new image file.

    C. For Teams client, check your Teams app is updated with latest version (for this : click on Teams profile picture > click on “Check for updates”, it helps to update Teams with latest version and then follow the below steps and clear Teams cache.

    Latest version installed.

    Cache clearer.

    Same error message. :(

    D. If the above suggestion doesn’t help, we need some more time to check this issue and in meantime, we suggest you to use Sniping Tool option to capture screenshot of your JPEG file. Copy that screenshot and use paste option to post your image in Teams channel.

I captured the process on video for you. Error persists. :(

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello BrunoHorta1,

Thanks for update. Since the error occurs only in one Teams channel – in post tab, suggest you to follow the below steps.

    A. Again download/create your affected JPEG file.

    B. Open Teams online app in InPrivate browser mode (use Edge or Chrome browser) and check if you are able to upload it.

    C. For Teams client, check your Teams app is updated with latest version (for this : click on Teams profile picture > click on “Check for updates”, it helps to update Teams with latest version and then follow the below steps and clear Teams cache.

    • Fully exit the Microsoft Teams desktop client. To do this, either right click Teams from the Icon Tray and select ‘Quit’, or run Task Manager and fully kill the process.
    • Go to File Explorer, and type in %appdata%\Microsoft\teams.
    • Once in the directory, you’ll see a few of the following folders:
    • From within ‘Application Cache’, go to Cache and delete any of the files in the Cache location.: %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\application cache\cache
    • From within ‘Blob_storage’, delete any files that are located in here if any.: %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\blob_storage
    • From within ‘Cache’, delete all files.: %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\Cache
    • From within ‘databases’, delete all files.: %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\databases
    • From within ‘GPUCache’, delete all files.: %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\GPUcache
    • From within ‘IndexedDB’, delete the .db file.: %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\IndexedDB
    • From within ‘Local Storage’, delete all files. : %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\Local Storage
    • Lastly, from within ‘tmp’, delete any file. : %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\tmp
    • Once finally done clearing, you can now restart Teams from your local desktop and all cache will be cleared from the desktop app.

    D. If the above suggestion doesn’t help, we need some more time to check this issue and in meantime, we suggest you to use Sniping Tool option to capture screenshot of your JPEG file. Copy that screenshot and use paste option to post your image in Teams channel.

    • For Snipping Tool : in windows search option type “Snipping Tool” > Use New > and select your entire JPEG file, select copy option and paste it in Teams channel

    E. Further for testing purpose, create on test file (such as word/excel file) and check if issue persist while you use attached option in teams channel to upload such file.

    Thanks and regards,

    Ankita Vaidya

Thanks for the prompt reply Ankita.

The files (pictures) can be opened as usual, and they're not password protected. I've placed them in different places and I get the same error message.

There's just one channel (5o LM- EF-CE), but what I found odd is that her classmates can post the activities we have been struggling to upload, and they have the very same lock symbols in the sub-sections.

I confirm I can upload files to the section you mentioned (check Sara1.jpg), but I cannot upload it to the area (subject) it should go to, which is LP - 5º - LM -CE

    Hello BrunoHorta1,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft community. Regarding your issue, change the location of your affected file (.JPEG file) and check if its password protected, if yes, remove protection. Also from that file folder, check if you are able to open such affected file or not.

Further, from your shared screenshot, we observed lock symbol in your all Teams channel, could you please let us know if your daughter is able to upload file in other Class Teams channel or issue is with just one Class Teams Channel “LP-5-LM-CE”. If issue is with all Class Teams Channel, check if the other classmates has also the same lock symbol at their end?

Meantime to upload your file, we suggest you to go to File tab > select Upload > Files and check if you are able to upload your affected file or not.

    • Screenshot for your reference:

    Thanks and regards,

    Ankita Vaidya
