Windows-based Teams client will not save password

We have a generic organization with no SSO or domain.  Just Microsoft applications and stand alone desktops.  We have a Windows 10 Pro machine, all updates done and in good working order except for Teams.

The Teams application will not save the password as the sign in skips over the stay signed in option.  The user logs in successfully and the application will work as expected, however once the application is closed and reopened the user is once again prompted to log in again.

We have tried the following:

  1. Uninstalled and reinstalled Teams
  2. Cleared data under Roaming and Local profile as well as any Teams-related entries in the registry
  3. Deleted the ADAL credentials in Windows Credentials

We are looking for a solution that does not involve creating a new profile for the user on their desktop computer if possible.

Thank you.

I am perplexed by this as I have several machines with a similar setup.  They have Teams for Windows signed in with the Microsoft account and after a reboot or the application is closed and re-opened the password is saved.  Can you please clarify your response?

    Hi RTS_128,

Thanks for the clarification. You may try to troubleshoot those affected user issue via using different PC (e.g. non-problematic user’s PC) to see whether the problem still occurs.

Please also try to check this issue via using any non-problematic user’s account on the same problematic user PC to determine whether it can be reproduced.

Moreover, check and verify whether those problematic Windows 10 PC can connect to Azure AD, see under To join an already configured Windows 10 device. And provide us detailed screenshot about “Access work or school” settings of Windows 10 for both problematic and non-problematic PC via the Private Message for further analysis.

Your patience and cooperation will be highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Shyamal

    Hi RTS_128,

Thank you for posting your issue on Microsoft Community. I understand that your organization doesn’t have SSO or Domain Join. However, Microsoft Teams uses modern authentication to keep the sign-in, we recommends either Hybrid Domain Join or Azure AD Join configuration for better experience.

For detailed information, please refer it to the article: Sign in to Microsoft Teams using modern authentication

Regarding this point, we would truly appreciate your kind understanding.

    Best regards,

    Shyamal
