How do you change chat column width

Hi folks,

The width of text in Teams chat is not wide enough for the plain-text logs we need to post in it, so every second post is a box with a scroll bar. This isn't very practical. How do I a) stop my comments appearing on the right and everyone else's on the left, and b) make the text use the whole width of the screen, instead of just the middle? I have the top image, but I want the bottom.

Thanks

Hello Walkingbeard,

Thank you for your posting and detailed description.

Based on my experience, both entries you pointed out aren’t feasible.

For style a) I think it’s to be able to better clarify which is sent from yourself or which is sent from others. And there’s no native option to stop it.

For style b) my personally view is that Teams layout is usually centered and can be dynamically tuning according to device specification and window size, but the central layout can’t be changed. It isn’t feasible to stretch the text to full panel.

If above 2 functions are important to you, I recommend you posting a feedback in Teams UserVoice: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public We appreciate every customer to share any valued ideas and suggestion to help improving product, your time and understanding will be greatly appreciated.

If you have any query, please feel free to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Anna

Exactly, UX design of the chat windows is very poor, we even use it as an example for our UX designer recruitment process.

After a year of frustration maybe it`s high time to find the dll, decompile and fix this "MaxWidth" setting.

"Based on my experience, both entries you pointed out aren’t feasible."

What does feasible mean? If we hit the chat window & the teams window, the column can not be widened to read the content in it. This is very feasible, Microsoft just did not bother to allow for it here.

Is there a home screen? The display is littered with past windows, past chats, past meetings. Where is home base?
