Teams Chat 'Unknown Users'

I've seen numerous threads on this subject but none of the suggestions are working for me. I've cleared the Teams out of Roaming and Local Appdata in file explorer, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, and 90% of Chat Users display as Unknown User.

This just started about a month ago and these are active users.

I cannot function with Support without the proper name displayed please advise and thank you!

There are some users experiencing the same issue and it just suddenly resolve after a moment. One reason is a lot of users now are using Microsoft 365 applications resulting delay in some processes because of overloaded request.

I'm glad everything is working now in your end. Thank you

I've already looked in Credential Manager and there were no listings for msteams and I have already deleted the contents under appdata. However, I'm not sure if there was a patch that came out this week, or it was a sync glitch through 365, but all User names in Chat are now displaying properly.

Thank you for your time but my month-long issue seems to have resolved itself.

    Please follow the resolution below:

You may try clearing the cache credentials.

    1. Sign out in Teams > Exit Teams and to do that, right click on the Teams icon on the task bar > Quit.
    2. Press on Windows button > type Credential Manager then open.
    3. Choose Windows credential
    4. Remove all the “msteams” credentials.

Then, proceed on clearing teams cache files again and to do that:

    1. On your keyboard, Hold Windows key and Press R.
    2. Cut and paste %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams in the Run Window then OK.
    3. Delete the contents of the entire folder.
    4. Restart Device > Restart Microsoft Teams > Sign In.

    Thank you

    Hi Veejay,

WebApp works perfectly. Meaning everyone displays with their proper name... unknown not displaying.

    Hello,

My name is Veejay, I'm an Independent Advisor.

Can you try accessing your Teams account in the web app using Chrome or Edge browser as recommended browsers to access Microsoft Teams online and check if other user will appear as unknown.
    Link to web app: https://teams.microsoft.com/

    Thank you
