Badge Count Wrong in iOS

I use two accounts with teams. One for my employer and one for my side business. Starting around the time iOS 14 was released my badge count has been wrong. On each account there is a persistent “offset”. For my employer account, it’s sitting at around 15 and for my side business it’s sitting at 6. So if I have 1 genuine notification the bage on the app will show 22. It’s essentially rendered the app useless as a badge no longer means I have an unread message.

If I open the app, there are no notifications listed on any page. If I then close the app the badge will be gone (as it should be), but it just pops back to it’s old wrong value after a few seconds (or I get a new legitimate notification).

I’ve opened every screen in the app. I’ve cleared the app database. I’ve deleted the app data. I’ve reinstalled the app. I tried only using one account at a time. I even did a factory reset on my phone. Nothing has helped. This is a server side issue as far as I can tell.

The two other iOS users in my side business describe the exact same issue.

The app will give me a badge count of 3 every time I get a new notification, but will reset to 0 upon reading the one actual new message.  It's getting a phantom 2 with each notification.

Has then be worked/resolved at all?

    Hey

What seems to be working is going to your seetings and selecting clear:

    • all downloaded data
    • all aplication data
    • history

App refreshes and I have finally 0 "ghost"messages

    Hello, Anna.

    Thank you for the reply.

Notifications are working as expected in the web app as well as in the Desktop app on Windows 10. The badge count error only shows up in the Teams iOS app.

I have opened every single possible screen in the app to try and clear them out. Nothing has helped. I also tried turning every notification setting off and on again to no avail.

I’m using the Teams app version 2.0.24. The issue was also present in 2.0.23 and 2.0.22.

As I said, the other iOS users in my organisation have the same problem. As do some people on Reddit as seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftTeams/comments/j6aurc/badge_in_ios_teams_app_is_wrong/

    Cheers,

    Deryk

This is not an isolated incident. My Teams in iOS shows 43 badge event count all the time. I go and check and I might have 1. This has been happening on latest version of iOS and Teams. Reinstalled Teams, same. IPhone XR, 13.7 iOS.

I am using the latest version on my iPhone as of March 23, 2021 and it "2" chats as unread but the entire list clearly shows all as read.  This is distracting and confusing.
