Cannot view Excel file in MS Teams

I was viewing an Excel file in MS Teams yesterday and found some errors.  I edited in Teams and now when I try to view the file it will pull up the scroll bars on the bottom and side like the Excel file has loaded but it will not display.  I am using a local install of MS Teams and have reinstalled with no joy.  A quick internet search didn't yield results but I'm going though a search keyword slump lately so I may have missed the answer.

    Hi Chacquie,

Based on your description, when you view an Excel file in MS Teams, it will show the scroll bars but the file will not display. May I confirm if you can see the Edit button in the upper right corner of the window (like below picture)?

If so, please try to click on the Edit button and try the second option to open this file and edit it in Excel app to see if this file can be correctly displayed.

In addition, if you cannot see the Edit button, please download this file and check if you can open it correctly in Excel app.

Both above methods will help us to narrow down if this issue is related to the Excel file. Moreover, if you can open/view this Excel file without problem, then I need to collect following information with you:

    1. If convenience, please connect to a different network and check if there are any changes.
    2. Could you please provide us specific information about how did you product “a local install of MS Teams”?
    3. Please check if the issue persists if you sign in web Teams through this link: https://teams.microsoft.com/
    4. Does this issue persists to all Excel files or just some specific one?
    5. Did you receive any error message? If so, please send us a screenshot of the error message and a screenshot of the issue you are encountered.
    6. What’s version of Teams do you use? Please send us a screenshot of the version information like below picture. See: click on your account in Teams, About, Version.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for the troubleshooting suggestions in your reply.  It does appear when I select "edit in Teams".

    1. If convenience, please connect to a different network and check if there are any changes.

I will take my machine home tonight to test this.

    1. Could you please provide us specific information about how did you product “a local install of MS Teams”?

This was done using a package provided in "Software Center".  I'm unsure if this was a package straight from MS or something our internal IT department put together.

    1. Please check if the issue persists if you sign in web Teams through this link: https://teams.microsoft.com/

I do see the file normally when using the web version of MS Teams.

    1. Does this issue persists to all Excel files or just some specific one?

It seems to be just this one file.

    1. Did you receive any error message? If so, please send us a screenshot of the error message and a screenshot of the issue you are encountered.

No error messages unfortunately.  Everything appears that it is opening normally but nothing displays.

    1. What’s version of Teams do you use? Please send us a screenshot of the version information like below picture. See: click on your account in Teams, About, Version.

You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.1.00.19257 (64-bit). It was last updated on 8/28/18.

    Thank you,

    Paul

    Hi Chacquie,

Thank you for sharing the details. According to your description, your Teams version is the same with mine, which is the latest version of Teams. Moreover, you mentioned this issue only exist in this file and you can open and edit it in Teams. Given this situation, many reasons may cause this file display issue. For example, the network environment, or sometimes, the Teams client might be stuck to display this file at that time. So, please check if this issue persists if you use Teams in your home. Please feel free share the result with us at your convenience.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Regards,

    Jennifer
