Teams for Mac /temp folder.

Hello all,

For all of Teams' Mac users, I am curious to know the standard size of the /temp folder.

I recently realized my SSD was filling up unexpectedly, so went hunting for what the purpose was. I found that my /temp folder for Teams was 44GB! Apparently 4-6 times a day, Teams was zipping something up, usually around 75MB. So over my whole time using Teams, I had amassed 44GB of these strange .zip files.

Is this a know issue, or setting that I have checked? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lee,

Thanks for posting back. I have run some tests via setting up my Office 365 account in Teams for Mac application but couldn't find the .zip files in the /temp folder for Teams as you. Therefore, let's move forward with the issue based on these steps:

    1. Regarding the version of the Team for Mac application, may I confirm if you get it from the upper-right corner when clicking your name in the bottom-left and choose About> Version

The reason why I want to reconfirm is that I'm running 1.0.00.14454 which is the latest version as far as I know. Also, where did you download the Team for Mac application from your side?

    1. I noticed the example files you captured in the screenshot were all generated half a year ago, may I confirm whether new ones are still being automatically created nowadays? Also, what if you empty the Teams /temp folder? Will these strange files come back or new files be generated?
    2. As I cannot reproduce the behavior in my own test, it's appreciated if you can let us know whether the problem also happens to your colleagues so we can identify whether it's a specific device issue or account problem.

    Thanks,

    Sam

    1. The version I am running is: 0.6.00.34901 which was updated on 6/7/17
    2. Started in safe mode, issue still persists.
    3. To my knowledge, so files larger than screenshots were sent.
    4. There are other Mac users, I am checking with them to see if they have the same issue.
    5. I have attached a picture of some of the old ones I put in the trash.

    Hi Lee,

Based on my research, there is no known issue of this kind reported and I’d like to collect the following information to further look into the issue:

    1. The detailed version of the Teams for Mac application. E.g. 1.0.00.14454 (Just click your name in the bottom-left and choose About> Version)
    2. Please start your Mac in safe mode so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Then check if the size of the /temp folder continues to add up.
    3. Are there any large files transferred in the Teams app when the issue happened?
    4. Does the issue happen to other Mac users in your organization?
    5. About ‘Apparently 4-6 times a day, Teams was zipping something up, usually around 75MB’, can you take some relevant screenshots and upload them for our further check?

    Regards,

    Sam
