Class Notebook - students saving a copy

I am using Class Notebook for the first time with my students. I want to know how the students can save a copy of their class notebook so they can have this in their onedrive account and carry it forward as they move from 4th grade through high school.  When they go to their shared notebooks, it doesn't have a place for them to "copy" this like it does for me as a teacher.

If I remove them when they move on to 5th grade, won't their class notebook disappear?

Hi Rehanson,

Are you in the situation below?

You create a class notebook. Add student 1 and student 2 to that notebook. So, from your side, you can see both of their sections. From their side, they can only see the section related to themselves. Now, you want to know:

  1. Can Student 1 and 2 move notebooks (from their side) to their OneDrive for Business or consumer OneDrive?
  2. After they leave your class, you remove them from the student list (Class Notebook tile>Add/Remove teachers or students), will their notebooks be removed from your side?

For question 1:

  1. Let them open the notebook with OneNote desktop application.
  2. File>Export>Notebook>OneNote Package>Export>save the package to local drive.
  3. Double click the package. OneNote will unpackage it. Choose a local drive to save it.
  4. Now the notebook is moved to local drive. In OneNote application, select that local notebook>File>Share>Move Notebook>enter their work/school accounts (related to OneDrive for Business) or Microsoft accounts(related to consumer OneDrive)>Move.
  5. Now their notebooks are moved to their OneDrive/OneDrive for Business.

For question 2:

Based on my test, remove a student from the student list won’t let his notebook also be removed from your side. They will lose the access to that notebook.

So, after they leave your class, you may firstly let them move their notebooks, and then remove their sections from your class via OneNote desktop application manually.

Best regards,

Tim
