Documents not saving in Teams

We have a number of excel and word documents saved in teams, however, we are having issues with editing the documents. 

  • documents will not open properly and are read only so cannot edit
  • we edit and then will not allow to save 
  • edit document, save and then reopen to find all info missing

Please can you advise?

    Hello Barb s_981,

    Given your situation, may I confirm that whether you use Teams Windows client? If so, I would suggest you sign in to Teams web side and check the results.

    Meanwhile, I also recommend you try opening this document directly see if you have permissions to edit them.

    If the problem persists, I would like to collect more information from you for further checking:

    1. For “we edit and then will not allow to save”, would you provide us a screenshot of this error message?
    2. How many users in your organization are affected?
    3. Would you mind sharing some details about how you open the documents from Teams?
    4. I noticed that you listed three situations, may I know if these happen on some specific documents or all your documents?

    Hi Sylvie,

    My apologies for the delay and thank you for coming back to me.

    I have checked on office 365 and the file is editable by the "team" members.

    When we then open this file, it says it is read only see screen print below.

    Then when click on edit workbook, the second message pops up.

    If I click "yes" it then pops up with the error message below.

    I am aware this affects a number of members of the team and not limited to this "team".

    This is not specific to certain files.

    Thanks for your reply. For “I have checked on office 365 and the file is editable by the "team" members.”, do you mean the file can be edited by team members when directly open it from SharePoint site, but when you open it via Microsoft Teams it shows “read only” error message?
