@Phillip Coppedge , @Graeme Malcolm [MSFT] , @Jon Bova ,
Firstly, we sincerely apologies for the inconvenience this issue has caused.
Affected subscription/users would have received this communication on Service Health. Sharing the message, posted to the Management Portal.
SUMMARY OF IMPACT:
Between 13:30 UTC and 21:24 UTC on 17 June 2021, you have been identified as a customer using Azure Search who may have encountered the error message "Authorization failed. Authentication token failed validation." When attempting to view your indexes, execute search queries, or perform other operations through the Azure Portal.
As a workaround, customers could have used programmatic methods such as REST APIs or PowerShell to perform these operations.
PRELIMINARY ROOT CAUSE:
We determined that a recent deployment created a conflict between Azure Search and the underlying service which manages Azure portal authentication. A further investigation will be needed to fully understand the nature of the conflict.
MITIGATION:
We rolled back the deployment to the previous version to mitigate the issue.
NEXT STEPS:
We sincerely apologize for the impact to affected customers. We will continue to investigate to establish the full root cause and prevent future occurrences.
