What's behind Microsoft's Protection Service (EOP)?

I wouldlike to understand the technology used by Microsoft in the anti-spam and anti-malware services but I couldn't find much on the web. I have contacted Microsoft support but they couldn't help me either.

What strategy, type and ammount data and technology is based the Microsoft's filtering protection (anti-spam and anti-malware)?

you are right there are not public documents. I was hopping someone could give me at least not ufficial info as the number of emails processed every days, the approximate number of records in their databases, update times etc....
