Cannot Edit Excel Document in Teams

Hello,

I have uploaded an Excel document to one of my Teams at my organization. However, when I open the Excel document through Teams, I am informed that it is read-only. However, the properties of the original document was not set as read-only and within the Teams document there is no option to change it from read-only to editable (see image below). I've shared documents with colleagues in the past through our Teams and when I open the document I can start editing immediately, so this is an issue I have not come across before. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi Sergio,

    1. I edited the name of the document and now it gives me the option to edit the workbook. However, when I click "Edit Workbook" and type in the password for the document, it doesn't allow me to edit it. It still keeps the document Read-Only.
    2. I created a new Excel document and saved it in the same "Files" tab of the same Team. When I went back to open this, it was editable instantly when I opened it.
    3. We only use the app that is automatically built into onto our organizations computers
    4. I'll try this at work tomorrow.
    5. Other new documents, similar to the new Excel document mentioned in #2 above open and are editable like normal.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with the fact that this specific document is password protected? I've also protected a number of cells that contain formulas, so colleagues won't break the formulas, so perhaps that is an issue with the conversion to Teams?

Hi, I'm Sergio, it's a pleasure to help you.

Please to improve my help, verify these items:

    1. Rename the document: What happen?
    2. Go to the Files tab and click New > Excel workbook to create a new test Excel document, enter some content and save it: What happen when you open this file?
    3. Try using the Team web app: What happen?
    4. Are there other user with the same problem using the same file?
    5. What happen if you add a new document to other Office app like Word or PowerPoint?

    Greetings.
