Hi Thomas, My name is Umar and I'd be happy to help you out with your question.

Please note: This is a user-to-user community forum. We are users just like you who help others. We are not employees of Microsoft.

In Microsoft Teams, when you add a third member to a one-to-one chat and create a group chat, the chat history is not automatically included in the new group chat. This behavior is not due to a recent change or a setting that can be adjusted. The chat history in Teams is saved in the mailboxes of the Office 365 Group, and personal chats, including group chats, are stored in the mailboxes. Therefore, the chat history of the original one-to-one chat will not be automatically included when a new member is added to create a group chat.

If you want to include the chat history in the new group chat, you can manually copy and paste the relevant chat history from the original one-to-one chat into the group chat. Unfortunately, there is no direct feature in Microsoft Teams that allows for the automatic inclusion of chat history when converting a one-to-one chat to a group chat. This manual process is the current workaround for including chat history in a new group chat in Microsoft Teams.

It's important to note that the retention policies in Microsoft Teams may also affect the visibility of chat history. If a retention policy was set up to delete chat history in Teams, it could impact the availability of chat history beyond a certain timeframe
