Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Hello mattswan,
Good day. Thank you for posting in the community!
Microsoft changed the installation file for the MS Teams desktop app from MSTeams-x64.msix to MSTeamsSetup.exe. Unfortunately, there is no official documentation that indicates when this decision was made. This transition appears to be a response to ongoing compatibility issues that users faced with MSIX file installations, particularly in environments with stringent security restrictions that prevented users from installing MSIX files.
As a part of the community team, we are here to assist you in troubleshooting and providing information on the availability status of features. However, it's important to note that our community team and the Microsoft product development team operate independently. These decisions are made by the Microsoft product development team.
It might be beneficial to contact Microsoft support for finding the root cause why have Microsoft decided to suddenly go against their guidance of installing teams via msix files as per their guidance on the bulk deployment site. This could provide more detailed insights about the circumstance.
We recommend that you contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and follow the steps in this article https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/get-help-support?view=o365-worldwide&tabs=online#online-support to create a support ticket to Microsoft.
