You can't share this channel with people from this org.

When I create a Team and then add a Shared Channel, I want to add people outside my org.

When I add the email address it says "You can't share this channelw tih people from this org.".

I am testing this with one of my other email addresses and I even tried my gmail.com address which said "We couldn't find any matches".

I have already checked the settings outlined in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/shared-channels-errors and all of these are already activated.

Why can I not add users to a Shared Channel??

    Hi Belinda

    Thanks for the reply

Based on your first query, it's not possible to use personal account like Gmail/Hotmail to meet your target, only business accounts mainly because they rely on B2B direct connect not B2C.

About cross tenant, you will need use this document below. These have to be allowed in the Entra admin center for both tenants. Example in screenshot below.

Collaborate with external participants in a shared channel (IT Admins) | Microsoft Learn

In case you have any further queries, please let me know.

    Have great day, thanks.

    Hi Onji,

B2B Direct Connection settings are enabled.

Cross Tenant Access Settings are enabled.

    Verify Teams Channel Policies

Not sure where I check this but Guest access is enabled and Teams accounts not managed by an organisation.

Is there no way to use Shared Channels with Gmail/Hotmail accounts??

Does the users you are adding to the Shared Channel therefore have to have a M365 business account?? I cannot add one of my own email addresses I have under a different domain name.

Good day! Thank for posting in the community.

We've received your query, and you can expect to receive response from one of our community moderators accordingly. I am sorry to see that you cannot add external users to a shared channel in Teams.

Per your update, i would assume you have confirm these settings already

= B2B Direct Connect - Ensure that B2B Direct Connect settings are properly configured, ensure that B2B Direct Connect settings are properly configured Re: Shared channel not adding external users (One way issue) - Microsoft Community Hub

= Cross-Tenant Access Settings- Check the inbound and outbound settings for cross-tenant access in Microsoft Entra ID, i guess you already reviewed this part right per your update Shared channels errors in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

= Verify Teams Channel Policies- Make sure the policy for inviting external users to shared channels is turned on

In the meantime, please note that shared channels don’t work with consumer accounts (Gmail/Hotmail). Only business accounts since they rely on B2B direct connect not B2C.
Secondly the admin in the other external organization also has to configure their cross-tenant settings on their end to allow inbound and outbound before you can invite or share the channel to their users. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/external-id/cross-tenant-access-settings-b2b-direct-connect

If all the above settings have been well configured, update me one more time so that we can move to the next step, look forward to hearing from you, thanks.
