I want to know if transcriptions can still be generated from a recording of a Teams meeting where transcription was not enabled. This used to be possible in Microsoft Stream, but it seems that functionality is no longer available.

Dear Chris P Beicon,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I have tested this on my end, and transcription is still possible in Microsoft Stream. To generate a transcript, follow these steps:

  1. Upload a video to a OneDrive folder and play the video.
  2. Click on the Video settings on the right side and select the Generate option.
  3. Choose the desired language and click Generate again.

Please note that it may take some time to generate the transcript. Once the process is complete, you can enable the CC (closed captions) option to view the transcript.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I have tested on my end, and transcription is still possible in Microsoft Stream. Upload a video to a OneDrive folder, play the video, click on the Video settings on the right side, click on the Generate option, select the language, and click on Generate again. It will take some time to generate the transcript; after completion, you can turn on the CC option.

    Hello Nahid,

Thank you for your detailed response. I reviewed it and after some testing, I discovered that the "Video Settings" option only appears on videos where you have edit rights. I was trying to generate a transcription for a meeting hosted by someone else, and the "Video Settings" button wasn’t available on that recording. However, I appreciate the thorough steps and screenshots you provided - they helped me figure it out.

    Cheers

    Chris

Md Nahid Sultan, thank you for your response. You wrote, "it is not possible to generate a transcript from the recording directly within Teams." Let me clarify - I'm not asking specifically about Teams. My question is whether this capability exists anywhere within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. I pointed out that it was previously possible to generate a transcription from a recording of a Teams meeting in Microsoft Stream, and I would like to know if a similar feature is still available.

    Dear Chris P Beicon,

    Good day to you!

I hope you are doing well. Thanks for reaching out to our Microsoft Community Forum. We will be happy to help you.

Currently, if transcription was not enabled during a Microsoft Teams meeting, it is not possible to generate a transcript from the recording directly within Teams. This behavior is by design in Microsoft Teams.

If you would like this feature to be enabled by default, I recommend submitting feedback or voting for similar suggestions on the Microsoft Teams UserVoice platform. Your input can help prioritize its development and implementation.

As community forum moderators, we have limited resources and cannot modify any product features.

However, Microsoft has a dedicated product team that continuously works on enhancing its services based on user feedback. If you need this feature with other Microsoft 365 suites, I recommend you send feedback to the Microsoft. Since it's related Microsoft 365 product services and features option under product design, I believe that the related product team can develop some convenient configuration based on customer requests.

Therefore, Microsoft recommend submitting feedbackby going in Microsoft Teams ¡ Community.

I do apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your understanding. Your cooperation and contributions are greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Nahid Sultan
