I recently upgraded to Windows 11, and I have the Microsoft Modern Wireless Headset that I use with Teams. After the upgrade, the microphone on my headset does not work. I have tried all the suggested changes/solutions and nothing works. Please advise if this is going to be fixed soon or what is happening.

The headphones works when I was in Windows 10. I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and that is when the microphone stopped working. I can see it working in settings under sound bur it does not work in Teams. That is the problem. Everything you proposed has been checked.

    Dear Todd Goetze,

Good day! Thank you again for reaching out and for confirming that you're using the Microsoft Modern Wireless Headset – Hardware Version 6. I understand how important it is to have your microphone working properly, especially when using Microsoft Teams, and I appreciate your time and effort in trying the previous steps.

Since the issue is still ongoing, I’d like to walk you through a few additional checks that may help us move forward:

    1. Confirm USB Dongle Use
Please make sure you're using the USB dongle that came with your headset. This dongle is required for full compatibility with Microsoft Teams. If you're connected via Bluetooth only, the microphone may not function correctly.

    2. Check Input and Output Settings
Can you check that your input and output devices in Windows match the ones selected in Microsoft Teams
    Here’s how:

    • On your PC, go to Settings > System > Sound.
    • Under Input, select your headset microphone.
    • Under Output, select your headset speakers.
    • Then open Microsoft Teams > Settings > Devices.
    • Make sure the same headset is selected for both Microphone and Speaker.
    • Use the Make a test call feature to verify the microphone is working.

    3. Confirm Account Consistency
Please check whether the account you're signed into on your Windows device is the same as the one you're using in Microsoft Teams. Sometimes, mismatched accounts can affect device permissions and functionality.

    4. Try Another Device
If possible, try connecting your headset to another computer or mobile device. This can help us determine whether the issue is related to the headset itself or the current system setup.

    5. Update Firmware
Make sure your headset firmware is up to date. You can do this using the Microsoft Accessory Center

    6. Check the device settings in Teams and Windows, removing and re-adding the Bluetooth device.

    • Check the device settings in Teams > Audio settings > Speaker (Bluetooth device is available) > Microphone (Bluetooth device is not available).
    • Go to Windows settings > Remove the Bluetooth device and add the device again.
    • Checked again the device settings in Teams > Audio settings > Speaker (Bluetooth device is available) > Microphone (Bluetooth device is available)

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like help applying these steps to your site. I’m here to help and will do everything I can to get this resolved for you.

    Warm regards,

    Dear Todd Goetze,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Support Community and sharing your experience. I understand how important it is to have your headset working properly, especially when using Microsoft Teams for communication. I’m here to help you resolve the microphone issue you're experiencing with your Microsoft Modern Wireless Headset after upgrading to Windows 11.

To assist you better, could you please confirm the exact model and version of your headset? Some models may not be fully certified for Microsoft Teams, and this can affect microphone functionality.

In the meantime, here are some step-by-step instructions that may help resolve the issue:

    1. Use the USB Dongle If your headset came with a USB dongle (often labeled as “Microsoft USB Link”), please plug it into your computer and power on the headset. This connection method ensures full compatibility with Teams, including microphone support.

    2. Set the Headset as Default in Teams

    • Open Microsoft Teams.
    • Go to Settings > Devices.
    • Under Audio devices, select Microsoft USB Link.
    • Make sure it is selected for both Speaker and Microphone.
    • Use the Make a test call feature to verify the microphone is working.

    3. Check Microphone Permissions in Windows

    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
    • Ensure Microphone access is turned on.
    • Confirm that Microsoft Teams is allowed to access your microphone.

    4. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
    • Right-click your headset microphone and choose Update driver.
    • If the issue persists, uninstall the device and restart your computer. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

    5. Try Teams in a Web Browser If the desktop app still doesn’t recognize your microphone, try using Teams in a browser:

    • Visit https://teams.microsoft.com
    • Sign in and start a test meeting.
    • This can help determine if the issue is specific to the desktop app.

For more information, you can check below:

If you’ve already tried these steps and the issue continues, please let me know:

    • The model/version of your headset.
    • Whether you’re using the USB dongle or Bluetooth.
    • Any error messages or behavior you’ve noticed.

Once I have this information, I’ll be able to guide you further or escalate the issue if needed.

Thank you again for your patience. I’m committed to helping you get this resolved as quickly as possible.

    Warm regards,
