Windows Storage Spaces JBOD question

I'm trying to find information on a particular use case with Windows Storage Spaces and a JBOD, but have been unable to so far.

I'll explain the scenario I want first - I would like to have a single mount point with a whole bunch of JBODs behind it with no redundancy. I want as much data storage as possible as the data per drive is easily reproducible. However, if I lose one disk, I want the rest of the storage to continue on unaffected. I'd also like to add more JBODs to the pool as my hardware needs expand. My first mount will be about 240TB unformatted. I plan on using Windows Server 2019.

Everything I've read refers to JBOD setups as similar to RAID 0, where if one light goes out they all go out. I don't want a stripe across multiple disks; I want each disk to function independently behind the scenes but still be front-ended by a single mountpoint so my application can just dump data to one drive letter. Is this possible with WSS?

    Hi,
I’m not very sure if this could be realized by Windows Storage Space.
Maybe you can refer to this:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/storage-spaces/deploy-standalone-storage-spaces

    Thanks for your time.
    Best regards,
    Danny

    Hi!

If I get You correctly, Storage Space won't help you a lot with your (I must say, strange) endeavor, but I believe that it is doable.

You would have to make your app smart enough to help You with that, or/and automate WS for that/the rest.

To Windows, You can add as many drives as you like (volumes get drive letters, not physical drives), also, Windows allows You to map the volumes to folders. Your app would have one mount point(one drive letter) and as many HDDs as you like in the backend, each HDD would be one volume mounted to a folder located on the drive letter your app is using.
Your app would have to be smart enough to check is there any free space on folder that is currently being filled if not She should start using another folder(next volume/HDD mounted as a folder) which is already prepared for using.

Different ways to implement this, but I hope You can realize/see the overall concept.

    Regards,
    Mahir
