Accessing Microsoft Teams using organizational or personal credentials
Hello Zimmersen, I'm Suganya a Microsoft Windows Independent advisor. I'm happy to assist you.
It seems like there are many 'authentication issues' that can cause this error - each with different fixes, it came down to just a few things to check:
- Make sure your date and time are set up correctly. Whether your date and time are accurate will affect your ability to connect to secure sites (https).
- Make sure the user is in the right AD group that licenses Teams (especially if you use MFA and if you use an AD group to grant licenses). Either way, make sure that the user is licensed to use Teams. (This was the specific resolution for us, however, the failed attempts led to another error that was resolved by doing the following)
- Verify they can access Teams from the M365 web portal - this will make sure it's not a true user authentication issue (which it shouldn't be, but you can't rule that out until you try - it's a different area to troubleshoot if it is)
- For the client error, clear the Teams client cache. To do this:
Close out of Teams and navigate to c:\Users\<UserID>\AppData\Roaming\Teams. (Or just go to Start --> Run --> enter "%AppData\Microsoft\Teams%") Click anywhere inside of that folder, press Ctrl + A to select all files/folders within that location Press 'Delete' to remove all files inside the Teams folder (yes, all of them is fine). If you have Skype also running, you may have to skip deletion of some files, or close out of Skype and try again. Try to access Teams again. You should be able to get in now.
Hope it will be fixed. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you!
