HI All . I work for a large organisation and we have O365 and Teams version 2 installed and the . due to this the outlook presence status do not work . Is there a fix for it ? possibly some registry key settings to keep the box Ticked even after a system restart ?please refer to the images attached the Teams one keeps getting unchecked and the outlook online status keeps getting grayed out . I am able to tick the "Register the new Teams as the chat app for microsoft 365" box and restart Teams and outlook and the Presence status works fine. but after a while the box get unticked automatically and presence won work and I have to repeat.

I am sharing this as I was having the same issue and used ProcMon to help troubleshoot. Each morning, I would select Teams as the chat app and after I reboot, I would need to again set Teams as the default chat app. Procmon pointed me to "HKCU\Software\IM Providers" value "DefaultIMApp". In my current state I can see that MsTeams is set. Then under "HKCU\Software\IM Providers\MsTeams" the value "PreviousDefaultIMApp" which identified another app on my system that was also registering as the default IM provider which loads on startup. In my case it was MiCollab. I edited the settings for that app and unchecked the option to register as an IM provider. I hope this is useful.

I have the same issue. Even my IT team couldn't help me resolve. Tried deleting the apps and reinstalling them. No luck! It's very frustrating.

For New Teams can't select "Register the new Teams as the chat app....".

I have successfully resolved this issue.

    1. Use an admin account to login to the computer. (Must be admin account)
    2. Login to new teams.
    3. Click "Continue" with "Make the new Teams your default app for chats and calls".
    4. Check New Teams Setting "Register the new Teams as the chat app...." should already be selected.
    5. Now you can sign out admin account and login back into your personal account.
    6. **Restart New Teams and Outlook.
    7. You can see the Outlook Status now.

    Hi Deepu,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. There are a few reasons why the "Register Teams as the chat app for Microsoft 365" option might be getting unchecked and causing presence issues in Outlook. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    Update Teams and Microsoft 365:

Make sure you're running the latest versions of Teams and Microsoft 365 applications. Outdated versions can sometimes cause unexpected behaviour. Check for updates within the applications themselves or through your organization's IT department.

    Restart Teams and Outlook:

A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches. Close both Teams and Outlook, then reopen them.

    Check IT department permissions:

In large organizations, IT admins might have group policies or settings that affect Teams functionality. The option to register Teams as the chat app might be managed centrally. Reach out to your IT department to see if there are any policies causing this behaviour. They might have a solution or need to investigate further.

    Avoid Registry edits (not recommended):

While some forums suggest modifying registry keys, it's generally not recommended. Modifying the registry incorrectly can lead to unintended consequences for your system. It's safer to rely on supported configuration options within Teams or through your IT department. Here's a quick recap of the steps:

Update Teams and Microsoft 365. Restart Teams and Outlook. Contact your IT department for assistance with group policies or settings. Avoid modifying the registry.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Give back to the Community. Help the next person who has this issue by indicating if this reply solved your problem. Click Yes or No below. Best Regards, Furkaan
