Teams and Sharepoint Integration

We have recently set up a Group for our research group including a team and SharePoint. Our university has a collaborative lab space with its own SharePoint. The SharePoint for the collaborative space is set up in a way so that each professor has their own folder with sub-folders for there students and the professor has access to all of the subfolders but each student is only able to see their own subfolder. We are wanting to be able to add a pointer to this in our teams to where we are not having the data stored in 2 separate places but maintain who is able to see the files in the sub folders.

What we want is to have the professors folder from the collaborative space in the teams files tab and have everyone be able to see the subfolders of all of the students in it but make it to where only the professor or the student can give access to specific files or subfolders in the student folders so that the data is not difficult to search through when sharing.

    Dear JAM,

The easiest way is to add a Website tab for users to access the site library where the folders and subfolders are stored from Teams. You can add the library link which is set with the folders and subfolders with the unique permissions on the Website app.

Upcoming updates to loading websites in Teams tabs

We able to add the Microsoft SharePoint to the teams as a tab however it automatically gives full access to every one in the group to the folder and this is not what we want. We want to maintain the current access to the files and as needed either the professor (owner of the group), or the person with current access to be able to add access to a different member of the team.

    Dear JAM,

    Thanks for your updates.

    The way should work.

If the team group members have no permissions to access the folders and subfolders from another site library, they shouldn't access them from the tab as well.

The Website app is like an embed way for users to access the content from Teams.

The key point is how you set the unique permissions on the folders and subfolders.

Thank you for your time and effort.

    Sincerely
