This makes no sense and is time consuming I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE

HOME network lan adapter is just LAN no gateway my other adapter is public and i m able to change it

in group policy i have selected treat ALL unidentified networks as private (no option to set to home)

my LAN Home NIC is stuck now at "work network" there is no option to click it force it as home with no gateway

if i put a gateway in the LAN it allows me to select it as HOME LOCATION. WHO THOUGHT OF THIS? what a stupid design, lots of people have complained about this but no solution.

is there a patch we can get ?

I hope the advanced users can help and we can make a solution for EVERYONE>

yeah windows 10 same thing

    Hi ,

Based on my understanding, your question is that if you don't put a gateway in IPV4 then you cannot change the network type. As picture below:

    With a gateway:

    Without a gateway:

This is normal because Windows 7 detects your home network by looking at it's gateway. If there is no gateway, windows 7 cannot identify the network and you cannot set network profile to home manually.

Base on my research, you can try following method:

    1. Add a second IP to the NIC. E.g.172.17.26.188.
    2. Leave the primary IP (172.17.26.138) and set the gateway IP to the second IP (172.17.26.188).
    3. Then Windows will raise the popup and select 'Home network'.

Here is the similar thread discussed before, you could have a look:

Is it possible to change an “Unidentified Network” into a “Home” or “Work” network on Windows 7 (Please pay attention to what lvmeijer said)
