According to my research, the error message may be caused by that some users opened the file on their devices, or the co-authoring feature doesn't work fine in your environment.
So, we want to confirm with you if you opened this file on multiple devices, if so, you could close the file on the other devices.
If the scenario above is not consistent with yours, I’d suggest you check if all files from Online have the same problem, and we will give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:
- If only one file has this problem, you can create a new file, then copy the content from problematic workbook to new workbook to check if the same problem will occur. - If all files have the same problem, you can also go to Excel > go to File>Options>Save>Cache Settings>click "Delete cached files". As shown below:

I there a way for me to contact a Microsoft support one on one call as an employee without admin rights as this is a huge problem for our team.
